June 14th, 2010 by Patrick BryantFished the Twister on a 1/2 day trip with Joel Sain and crew. We trolled the beach for the majority of the day in search of Spanish Mackeral. The Spanish were slow to bite on the first half of the trip, but started biting around mid morning. We finished the day with over 20 Spanish and one small King Mackeral. We drifted for sharks for a few minutes with no avail. The sharks have been biting well, but I believe the recient storm has got them shut down for a few days.

Grouper and Jacks
June 14th, 2010 by Patrick BryantFished a 3/4 Day in the 35 mile range and had good success on Jacks and a few Grouper. Most of the Grouper were around 10 pounds and the Jacks around 35. We got lucky and snagged a nice cobia that swam by the boat. I pitched him a pogy on a spinning rod and boy it was on. Luckly the spinning rod was spooled with 50 pound braid and the boys put the smack on him.

Over the past week we have been running several 3/4 trips. Most of these trips were spent fishing in the 30 mile range. Amberjacks and King Mackeral were the main targets and we were very successful in landing good numbers of Jacks and several King Mackeral. Not only did we catch Mackeral and Jacks, but found several nice Grouper and Black Bass to throw in the mix. We did have one added bonus on one trip. While the Amberjacks were schooling under the boat, I noticed a nice Blackfin Tuna swimming along. I quickly threw several live baits out to try and fire the tuna up, but the Jacks were so quick they ate the baits before the tuna had a chance. I then threw out a handfull of dead cigar minnows, which the Jacks usually don’t mess with, and sure enough the tuna ate every minnow. Well at that point I definately had him willing, and threw one more dead minnow out, but this time I had a 5/0 single hook hidden inside. The blackfin turned and leisurely swam toward and ate the bait. Every thing was in slow motion till I set the hook, and he then started acting like a tuna, stripping almost all the braid off the Penn Spinning Rod. Forty-five minutes later the tuna was in the boat and everyone was hollaring and high-fiving each other. The fishing is definately on fire, so come on down and lets go fishing.

1/2 Day
May 28th, 2010 by Patrick BryantHad a 1/2 Day today. It was a little breezy all day which kept us near the beach. There have been some King Mackeral biting at Yaupon Reef so we decided to give it a try. The bite was a little slow on the kings. Several kings skied on our baits, but missed the hooks. One 20 pounder connected, but bite through the leader right at the boat before Zach could get a gaff in him. Even though the kings were a little slow, the sharks made up the difference. The group landed several sharks, one being a nice 4′ Hammerhead. I’ve got an offshore trip on Saturday and Gulf Stream/Bottomfishing trip on Sunday, so stay tuned for more reports.

Gulf Stream/Full Day
May 26th, 2010 by Patrick Bryant

On Friday we took the Twister on a Gulf Stream/Bottom Fishing adventure. After several hours of trolling in the stream with no luck except several Mahi Mahi, we decided to make a change and move inshore to bottom fish. This would wind up being a great decision because the bottom fish were chewing. We saved the trip and ended the day with close to 200 pounds of fish. Most were nice Black Sea Bass, with a few Grouper, BeeLiners, Grunts, and one nice Black Tip Shark to throw in the mix.
1/2 Day Kings

Just talked to the Twister and they’re in with 3 limits of King Mackera, a total of nine,l and several nice Spanish Mackeral and Sharks. Fish were hitting live bait at the Lighthouse Rocks. Capt. Josh said they couldn’t keep a bait in the water.

Awesome Full Day
May 19th, 2010 by Patrick Bryant

On Saturday I took Charlie Kuhn, Little Charlie Kuhn, Duke Kuhn, Bryne and Darrell from Lancaster, S.C. and Brian Oneil from Ellerbe, N.C. on a full day opportunistic trip. By this I mean we are not targeting any one fish, but are after whatever will bite. We started fishing in the 90 foot range and quickly caught several kings. I slowly worked my way offshore checking several different areas. All areas had willing fish and we caught fish pretty much all day. On one spot a huge school of Jacks decided they liked being beneath the Twister and this allowed the guys to catch all the jacks that they could stand. I would estimate that we caught over 25 jacks ranging from 10-40 pounds. We kept our limit and released the rest to grow up and become even stronger fighters. During one of the jack takeovers a lonely 30 pound cobia swam into the spread and we were able to hook him up on one of the live pogys that we had in the livewell. After a 10 minute tug of war, Darrell was able to get the cobia within my gaff range. Soon after that everyone was standing on the gunnel, allowing the cobia to have the floor to himself. If you have never seen a green cobia on the deck of a boat all I can compare it to is a bowling ball going down the lane, its going to knock over anything in its way. We ended the day with a great catch bringing home 6 Amberjacks, 5 nice Scamp Grouper, 2 King Mackeral, 1 nice cobia, and a handfull of Grunts and Bass to throw into the mix. The fishing is on fire so if you would like to get into some of this action feel free to give me a call.
