1/2 Days

July 7th, 2011 by Patrick Bryant

I’ve had several 1/2 days this week.  The Spanish Mackeral have really been biting good on the beach.  Most of the fish are good keeper size, with a few big one’s mixed in.  We’ve been beating our way out to the SharkHole, about 18 miles out and catching a few King Mackeral and Mahi Mahi.  The Shark Hole didn’t get its name by accident and there have been several nice Tiger’s swimming around taking bite size pieces out of the Kings.

Grouper Trip

July 7th, 2011 by Patrick Bryant

Went offshore on this past Saturday and slayed the Grouper.  We ended up with 13 for the day, 5 Gags and 8 Scamp.   Two of the Scamp were over 20 pounds.  We released a nice American Red, Its tough to release such a great eating fish, but got to follow those regulations.  I’ve got some good pics, just waiting on the email.

South Dakota Day 3 and 4

June 27th, 2011 by Patrick Bryant

The past two days have been by far some of the best trout fishing I’ve seen.  We have been fishing Spearfish Creek, in Spearfish, South Dakota.  This area is where the last scene of Dancing with Wolves was filmed.  If you’ve seen this movie,  you know how beautiful the landscape is.  Spearfish Canyon is a huge 20+ mile canyon , with the creek running through it.  Yesterday the weather was very foggy with misty rain and temps in the upper 50′s.  The cloudy conditions made the fish bite all day.  I know that I caught at least 100 fish with most averaging around 12-14 inches.  Dad caught the big fish of the day, a 16″ Rainbow.  Mom also got in on the action.  She caught several nice Brown Trout, drifting small flies.

The weather today was totally different, the skies were clear and temps were in the upper 7o’s.   The abundance of sunshine really had an affect on the fish, making them really leader shy.  That being said, they still were hungry.  I caught probably 50 today, most averaging 12 Inches.  I did catch one stud 17 inch Rainbow that was full of energy and took me  a 1/4 mile down river once he hooked up.  Its tough chasing a fish down river, trying not to bust your tail running over slick rocks.

Were coming home tomorrow, time to get back to work!! On the saltwater scene, the weather in Holden Beach the last few days has been horrible.  Most offshore trips have been canceled, the only fishing that is going on is inshore flounder and drum fishing.  The Flounder have been on fire, with some big doormats being caught.  The weather midweek is susposed to turn around, so stay tuned to some more reports.  Adios South Dakota, North Carolina here we come!!.

South Dakota

June 24th, 2011 by Patrick Bryant

Out in South Dakota with mom and dad doing some site seeing and fly fishing.  Hired Dave, a local guide to show us some of the hotspots this morning, he met us here at the lodge in Custer State Park at 8:00 am.  It gets light here around 5:30 so Austin and I decided to check out the stream here in front of the lodge before we were susposed to meet Dave.  In one hour of fishing we had caught 26 Native Brook Trout, most ranging between 8-12 inches, man what a way to start the morning.  Once we got hooked up with Dave we were off to catch some big ones at French Creek.  The first creek was slow, but managed to catch one nice 14″ Rainbow and 12″ Brown Trout.  We weren’t seeing many fish so we moved 45 minutes down the mountain to fish a section of Spring Creek.  Right off the bat we could see several nice fish feeding and new this was the spot.  Dad hooked the first fish, a nice Rainbow, which was not to excited about being hooked and took about 5 minutes to land.  Now, if you don’t know trout, 5 minutes hooked up to a trout seems like an eternity.  The fish was successfully landed and measured 18″, a real nice Rainbow.  Soon after that I had another nice Rainbow on, this fish also fought hard, taking me down stream to the next pool.  It took a while but we got him in the net, a nice 16 incher.  For another hour we caught nice fish ranging from 12-16″.  This was my first day of fishing, and if we can top this were doing pretty good.

On the saltwater side of things I would love to put one of those trout down on one or two of my grouper holes, I guarantee what the result would be, BIG!  Zack didn’t take his trip out today due to some rough seas, but we will be back in action on Monday.  I’ve still got an opening or two this coming week so give us an email or call and lets book a trip.
